Alice McCall x MAC at MBFWA 2018

At the release of her “Kismet” Resort ’19 show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia, Alice McCall says she “designs dresses for girls to have a great time in. To celebrate. To have fun. I find it really interesting to push boundaries… to create something that is pretty and add a boldness.”

Nicole “Pinky” Thompson for MAC, along with Renya Xydis for Wella hair, brought that boldness.

“The whole collection is really girly and beautiful and what you want to wear,” said Nicole.

“We wanted to give a toughness to this look – twisted 50’s, twisted housewife. We’ve made the liner really straight… we didn’t want it to look too pretty. Especially great when there’s not much eyebrow, it looks so powerful as they’re going down the catwalk.

We’re using M.A.C Fluidline Eye-Liner Gel in Blacktrack because it’s easy to sketch with and it doesn’t dry immediately so you have a bit of playtime. We’re then going over that with M.A.C Liquid Eyeliner in Boot Black as it’s super dark and really matte and will show up against the beautiful luminous skin.”

And what is the secret to a perfect angular flick? Nicole’s advice: Priceless!

“Look straight ahead. Practice and hold your breath! But also use an angled synthetic brush. They stay thinner, and hold their shape better than a natural brush. Do the bottom of the line first, then come back in and go straight in to the inner corner of the top lid. I create an angle from the lower lash line and use the brush to stamp it on, then I do the same thing from the upper lash line to join it up. You’re left with an open triangle and then all you have to do is colour that in. Twist a brush or cotton tip into the liner and create a slightly rounder inner corner – pointy eyeliner can make you look crosseyed! Use tiny cotton buds and makeup remover to clean up lines.”
